My Dad's Garden #2 : Flowers

You have already had a preliminary tour of my Dad's garden here and I was rather amused when some of you commented that what you saw was an orchard or a farm hah..hah...

My dad's jungle hee..hee...
Besides fruits, my Dad also has flowering plants. These are among the collection of blooms in my dad's garden.

These are hibiscus and they look like little red pom poms. Very cute and pretty.

This is another multi-petal hibiscus variety.
This is the Ixora. Notice that the small flowers grow in a bunch and the whole thing looks like a ball.

My dad's Ixora plant is over 10 feet tall. You can see the roof of the house in the left hand corner.
Because the Ixora is tall, the flowers hang downwards and they look like hanging balls of flowers. I never liked Ixora until now.

This is another hibiscus variety.

Another red one.

This is the double petal variety.
These are the most beautiful flowers in my dad's garden. Roses!
Yikes! Do you see the tiny beetles?
It's so lovely, don't you think? Sigh.....

Bougainvillea.
Nice view, don't you think?
This is the yellow Ixora. Not as spectacular as the red one.
I have one more post on my dad's vegetables and other miscellaneous plant. Till then, I leave you with these lovelies.

I can' t get enough of these roses!

  1. Lovely flowers! I love those carnation-like hibiscus. Incidentally, they were sharing something on Facebook - about the health benefits of eating hibiscus petals. There! You have a lot there right at your doorstep. ;)

    1. Eat hibiscus petals? I think I read about that too in Flavours magazine, where you can add them to salads.

    1. Oh no, not ladybirds! They are black in colour. Not sure if they are the helpful ones or the destroyer ones.

  6. Hi Phong Hong,
Ha ha ... jungle ? Surely not ... with all these lovely pretty flowers bloomed in the garden. Oh yes, I grew up in kampong and since very young, I was told not to put flowers too near to the nose to smell/sniff as might have very small insects in the flowers ... hee hee. Nice sharing and I really enjoy "taking a stroll in the garden" ... imagination lah.

  8. wah.. you mention your father's garden huh?? so are you sure it's just a garden, not an orchard or a park?? hahaha.. look at those lovely flowers, someone who loves flowers must be so happy to see all of them, and can spend one whole morning gazing and admiring the flowers and even as detailed as the petals..

and just like i know makan only, i can say that all flowers are just flowers to me, hahaha.. i am very bad in naming the flowers (or generally plants), probably those more common ones like rose, lavender, tulips, hibiscus, chrysanthemums, orchid etc that i know, others don't ask me, hahaha.. but then, the very first and the very last photos, are those rose, or actually peonies?? tell me if i am wrong, as you know, i'm bad in flowers~~ :p

  10. Hi Phong Hong,
Your dad sure has a beautiful garden! I have never seen an Ixora plant over 10 feet tall! I like hibiscus, the many varieties are simply beautiful! And the roses are gorgeous! I am a jinx to roses, can never grow them, wasted lots of $$ buying them from the nurseries, and they never last a year! Not even once! So now, I grow veggies, for my tummy! Hahaha!

    1. Joyce, I am the same! That's why I don't bother planting roses. I must plant those hardy resilient ones like hibiscus hah..hah...

  13. What a lovely garden full of blooming flowers!!! That looked like the Garden Of Eden. So Adam and Eve still live there and they are your loving parents. Muahahaha
When a house is full of natural blooming flowers, the feng shui is often good for the dwellers.

    1. TM, that's good to know that it is good feng shui. My mum will be very happy to know that. The flowers are such a joy to behold!
